![]() ![]() That "computer controlled" reciever with EQ bands on the front just LOOKS like not the best sounding. I figure people here would have some good knowledge to help point me in the right direction.Ĭlick to expand.Hmmm. Thanks an advance for any advice! I really don't know a lot about what's available these days and there are so many options out there, it's hard to know where to start. What amp/receiver(s) would you recommend? What speakers would you recommend in my price range? (would be nice if they were smaller than my current speakers, but sound quality is more important) What do I need to know about matching speakers to amp/receiver? Do you recommend shopping for speakers first, or amp/receiver? ![]() My ballpark budget for amp & speakers $1500 - $2000 The current system actually still sounds pretty good to us in general for most listening (even though the gear is obviously not new or high end), but it's time for an upgrade. I was about to hang them in our main room, and thought, maybe it's time to upgrade before dealing with that (they're pretty heavy).įor an amp/receiver I'm currently using an old JVC RX-403. A friend gave them to me years ago, they look custom built, with no make or model number. The cabinets are 24" x 12" x 14" (kind of a standard old school stereo speaker size I think?). ![]() I've been using an old pair of wooden stereo speakers for years. (Am a musician myself and do home recording, etc, but have studio monitors for that purpose). I'm not an audiophile, but we do a lot of listening, and do appreciate good quality sound. I'm looking into upgrading the stereo system. I've recently bought a house, and moved in permanently! Our main listening room is (about) 30' x 20'. ![]()
